Visit Birmingham!

Visit Birmingham

We love Birmingham, it’s great. We love summertime in Brindleyplace, comedy shows at the Mac, meetings at Urban Coffee, shopping in the Bullring, and walks along the canal. We even love Pete the feet.

We’ve recently found out that some other highly influential people love it as much as we do: namely, readers of Group Leisure magazine, when they selected it as the ‘best UK city’ to visit, ahead of Liverpool, York and all those other losers.

It gets better. There has been an 11% growth in tourism to Birmingham over the past 6 years, which translates to nearly 34 million visitors. Have you got single friends in London complaining that they can’t get a date? Call them up and get them on the next train to Birmingham – 34 million is a lot of people to choose from!

Across the pond, New Yorkers wrote an article simply named ‘Birmingham instead of London’. Nice. They highlighted many aspects of Birmingham including the famous Balti Triangle populated with over 50 high-quality South Asian restaurants (most of which our MD has been to!). Birmingham’s cultural offering received commendation, with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company and the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra wowing New York Magazine. Cadbury World, the Custard Factory, and the newly built Library of Birmingham also received notable mentions, proving you can’t go wrong with chocolate, custard and a good book.

All this positivity and excitement was echoed in the explosive growth in visitors over Christmas 2013, partly due to the fabulous Frankfurt Christmas Market that brought the city centre streets alive with festive delights from the end of November. If you’re already missing the mulled wine, bratwurst and crepes then don’t worry; it’ll be back in 10 short months!

Our hopes for the second city remain the same: for it to keep growing in popularity and reputation, and for more people to utter the phrase “wow I didn’t realise Birmingham was this nice!” when they visit. 2014 is looking good!
