Chinese New Year in Birmingham

Happy New Year from Centrick Property

What year is this?

As many of you will know each year in the Chinese calendar is linked to one of 12 animals, and 2015 is the year of the goat. If you were born in 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991 or 2003 then this is your year!

For all you ‘goats’ out there, your animal sign means you’re calm, gentle, creative and honest. Basically, you're a really nice person!

When does it happen?

Chinese New Year goes on for a lot longer than its British counterpart. Celebrations begin on Thursday 19th February, and run all the way until Thursday 5th March – a whole fortnight of festivities!

Unfortunately the Birmingham version doesn’t go on quite that long, beginning on Thursday 19th and finishing on Sunday 22nd.

What’s on in Birmingham?

The main hub for Birmingham’s Chinese New Year will be the Arcadian Centre, and the surrounding area. The celebrations begin there at 11.30am, and the on-stage performances kick off at 12.30pm. There will be traditional cultural performances and stunning martial arts demonstrations. Things will finish with a bang, with a spectacular fireworks display drawing proceedings to a close. Oh, and it’s completely free! You can see a full programme of what’s taking place here.

An amazing 30,000 people were reported to have attended last year’s celebrations, and you can check out a short video of how the event looked here.

What are Centrick doing?

Centrick Property are going to be right in the middle of things, as usual! We’re hiring a stand at the main Arcadian Centre event, where we’ll be giving out lucky red envelopes, complete with some giveaways and offer leaflets. Find us and say hello, we're a friendly bunch!

Starting from today, we’re also declaring this Chinese Property Week across our social media platforms! Keep checking our Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts for loads of fun and informative posts about property in China.

For now, we'd just like to wish you all Gong Xi Fa Cai!

(We’re reliably informed that means Happy New Year… but if we just offended all our Chinese fans we apologise profusely)
