Go cycling mad in Birmingham!

<< GO BACK

With the Tour de France well under way and the whopping 2,276 mile journey having started off in Leeds this year, you might have started feeling the urge to get your bike out of the garage, dust it off, give the tyres a pump and get back on the road. Luckily, you don’t have to cross the channel to find a scenic route to ride on!

Whether it’s for the exercise, fresh air or landscape viewing, the local area is rich with excellent routes to be explored on two wheels. The Birmingham Mail suggests a couple of landmarks to include in your Tour de Birmingham, such as Grand Union Central and going through Aston while following the Birmingham to Fazeley Canal, as well as stopping at the new Eastside Park for refreshments.

If you'd like to flex those quads for a good cause check out the Birmingham Bikeathon on 21st September this year to help in the battle against leukaemia. With three routes available (26, 52 and 100 miles) you can pick the one that suits your level and ambition! The ride is for Leukemia & Lymphoma Research, who have been supporting research in Birmingham since the 1960s and are currently funding 30 projects in the city.

If you’d like to get involved more in the Birmingham cycling scene, whether it’s to compete or to socialise, check out the local cycling clubs where you can meet fellow enthusiasts. But if all this treading the pedals sounds a little exhausting, Birmingham is now host to a number of electric bike stores so you won't miss out on the landscapes, socialising and fresh air!
