Do men and women have different priorities when they move house?

<< GO BACK

A recent survey pointed out the different housing priorities when it came to the two genders. The results gave us an insight into what both men and women searched for, and we got to see if there was any variation. The outcome was very interesting!

Both genders listed the most important reasons they considered when making the move to a new property. A larger amount of women desired access to high-performing schools, public transport and closer shops/amenities. A nearer distance to work and family/friends was a factor that women also saw as more of a necessity. Other priorities for female househunters include the need for a larger property, faster broadband connectivity and a home which facilitates a better lifestyle.

Financial reasons were more prevalent when it came to men, including tax charges, retirement and pension support. Also noted as highly important were mobile coverage and the political environment.

Additionally, the study asked which home services were preferred when living in a private sector apartment block. For men, practical amenities were more important, with options such as a doorman, in-house cleaning services, banquet services and refrigeration drop-off storage all more popular with males than females. Women saw access for the disabled and the possibility of keeping pets as higher priorities.

Environmental features appeared to be of more importance to men than women. Code Level 5 ratings, renewable energy, living walls and green roofs were also all considerably more popular with male respondents. Materialistic items were also noted, with 14% of men wanting a cinema/screening room and 12% wanting a wine cellar. In contrast, 24% of women rated an AGA oven as their top home accessory, while 18% wanted a kitchen island.
